What vehicles can be driven on the road? The main exemptions

Not all vehicles are subject to the bans. Some essential and strategic transports enjoy exemptions:

• ✅ Intermodal and combined transport → Vehicles heading to interports and rail terminals can run 4 hours before the end of the ban.
• ✅ Transportation of perishable and primary goods → Green light for transportation of fresh food, milk, drinking water, fuel, live animals, medicines and health products.
• ✅ Vehicles bound for airports → Must have documentation showing loading/unloading of cargo.
• ✅ Vehicles undergoing overhaul or repair → They are authorized only if they have a reservation for overhaul or in urgent need of repair.
• ✅ Prefectural permits → Some critical transports, such as supplies for events, fairs and markets, may require an exemption at least 10 days in advance.
• ✅ Vehicles coming from or going to foreign countries and islands → Vehicles arriving from abroad can drive 4 hours after the start of the ban, while those going across the border can leave 2 hours earlier. For Sardinia and Sicily, there are specific reductions in the prohibition hours.
